Abstract
This chapter addresses the concerns expressed by a number of researchers in the EMI field namely that not enough research and commentary contributions have, to date, been published by EMI teachers themselves. After an introduction to the theme by Ernesto Macaro, this chapter provides pedagogical insights from specialists in History, Physics, and Science Education. An important feature of the contribution from the history teacher, Sheng-yen Lu, is the challenge of teaching local history through the medium of a world language, English. For the physics teacher Yu-Lim Chen, the challenge is to utilize an assortment of pedagogical strategies in order to put across difficult concepts in English to some students who may lack the necessary linguistic skills. For Valerie W.Y. Yip, the science educator, one of the challenges is to develop the dual role of her ‘future teachers’ as both teachers of science and teachers of language.
